The Teachers I Cherish and Respect Most : A Teacher’s day Special Post

Just a few days ago . one of my 11 year old student from Trincomalee had said ‘Anna . I wonder what your Teachers are like ‘. That had been an interesting Query. Especially from a 11 year old.

So As Today, Teacher’s day is being celebrated worldwide. I have decided to write a post on my teachers. Especially the one’s who have inspired me a lot. Not only through their words , through their actions too.

One of the Main Privilege of being a teacher is the opportunity and the gift of being able to nurture and help the children grow up in their own way. As for me , when I was a 11 year old myself , this sort of nurturing is what I have received from my Math Teacher. She have always been there answering my questions and queries on Math ,which only a 11 year old could get. She is one of the fundamental reason for whatever I have been able to do with Mathematics. Whether it is my performance on A levels or my Involvement on Olympiad. I owe that to her. And Thanks a lot for that.

Another Critical teacher Whom I was privileged enough to have is My English teacher from sixth grade. It Might seem strange , but those years are very potent years for a child. The Right Guidance in that age could make an enormous impact in the trajectory of their lives. She is one of the reason for me being able to handle English to whatever level I could. It is not that She have been there and taught all that English to me. That’s not the point. The Authentic Encouragement the teachers gave and the Enthusiasm they radiate . That will make anyone look back and see they have been one of the fundamental reasons for wherever we are right now. Whatever we have been able to do. Whatever we have been able to Give. In that respect I owe her That Much of Gratitude.

Another one of the Teachers who have inspired me is my Science Tuition Sir during my beginning of Grade 10. Here was a man who takes the relatively complex Grade 10 Science and break it down to bite sized chunks. So anyone could digest them and see the profundity in them. In that respect I am fortunate enough to meet him too.

The Next Teacher who have played a significant role when it comes to showing what is possible is My Commerce Tuition Sir from Grade 10. Here is a man who do not use any sort of offense on Students. Neither Verbal nor Physical. Yet Every One of us in the Class respects him for the way he taught us with Stories and a Great Sense of Humor. Even more for his Organizational Skills and High Level of Practical Skills.(Which were very apparent . when you consider he have got a full time job which is not academic teaching. Still he taught us very Beautifully. Encourages us Innovatively. With a great sense of Dedication)

These were had been my formative years in many ways. And in that respect , these wonderful people have taught me Teaching is not about Knowledge per se. It is much more than that. It is about making each child feel included in the class. It is about not making things more complex than they are. It is about making things simple as they can be. It is about fostering independent inquiry. It is not about ruling the students. It is about letting the Students themselves Grow Up through Example and Encouragement.

And The Next Teachers who have made a Significant impact are from My A level years.

My Physics Teacher in School had been a Major One in this respect. She have came to our Class just a week. Then She retired. Yet If Anyone asked to name someone who have made a significant impact for my performance on A level. Without a moment of hesitation I will say it is her. This is to not say that she have taught me the entire Physics Curriculum. That’s not the least of the point. She have shown us no matter the environment you are in. You can maintain your own dignity. You can make a significant impact. When most A level Periods in most Schools goes between boredom and apathy. She Showed us it is Entirely Possible to be Highly Enthusiastic. Not through her words. Through each and everyone of her actions. While A level Teachers Closely involving with Students in Classes are a Rare fact. She Involved herself with each of us. Making each of us improve in our own way. Whether it is academically or generally. And That is a Huge thing. So Any of my performance when it comes to A level. Whether my results or my involvement in A level Teaching. It goes straight to her.

And Last but not the Least . My Performance on A level Chemistry Significantly goes to my Tuition Sir . Again this is not that I learnt All Chemistry in Classes. That’s not the point. The Credit Goes Since of the kind of Involvement with which he conducted the Classes. It is just not only cause of the consistent exams we face in the class. Or the constructive feedback we received from him. He is not Afraid of Pointing out the Issues in the collective Educational Practices. Nor to point out flaws in the system when it is necessary. And that means a Huge. It is Easy when you are doing the A levels to feel Alienated from the teachers. But He Shows Us He is there in our side. Working with us.

And That really made all the differences.

And there are lot more of these incredible people who have showed me a lot more valuable lessons. Since of letting the post be a short-read , I am not mentioning them here.

And Thanks a lot for them too.

And Here We are Thanking all, who are really shaping the world of tomorrow. Cause Tomorrow’s world is in today’s Children’s Hands.
