Top Student Answers Series #1 : What UoC Medical Student Ashinsa feels about her own A level Experience

G.C.E A level , Arguably one of the most competitive exams in Sri Lanka , is written by hundreds of thousands of students annually.

In Each Streams , the students with the top results get the opportunity to choose whatever degree program for their higher studies , in whatever University they like, within Sri Lanka’s free Education framework.

We usually tend to eulogize the top of the top in these exams, who score exceptionally well in their chosen stream, as they have got some sort of super power that let them perform so well.

This Series of posts , based on the experiences of the top performers of Sri Lanka in G.C.E A level, will give us the hint as how these students are doing exceptionally well. Are they using some sort of superhuman abilities they are born with, or are they making intelligent decisions along the way, which makes them stand out?. If the latter is the case, what exact decisions are they making?. It is these questions, these series of posts attempt to unravel. Not from theoretical speculation. From the Peak Performers themselves

In that regard , Ashinsa of Anuradhapura , a student who have made her way into Medical Faculty of Univeristy of Colombo , will answer our Questions today.


RG : Ashinsa , What you consider , you have did right in your time as an A level student?

AS : I worked consistently from the very beginning of my studies and regularly practiced with past-exam papers. Staying on top of things and using question papers effectively were the key factors in my success.


RG : What would you do differently if you get another chance as an A level student?

AS : I would make it a priority to keep up with the Biology syllabus consistently instead of letting myself get lazy with it. I would also focus on enjoying the learning process, make time for relaxation, and take better care of my health rather than concentrating too much on studies.


RG : What is the most significant thing you would say for a current aspiring A level student?

AS : Balance is everything. Manage your studies alongside your day-to-day life, ensuring you’re also looking after your health, taking breaks, and maintaining a positive mindset. A balanced approach will make your A-level journey much smoother.


RG : What single technique or practice have helped you a lot in your journey?

AS : Becoming a night owl worked well for me. Studying at night allowed me to focus deeply, and I practiced lots of questions based on what I had learned. This method was especially helpful in reinforcing my understanding and building confidence.
